A Galore of Undergraduate Research!
WPI’s mission is project-based learning, encouraging undergraduates to delve into research, thereby ensuring they are better equipped for their futures. One of the larger branches of project-based learning is the major qualifying project (MQP), a year-long research undertaking where the undergraduate designs experiments, performs them independently and ends the year with a poster presentation. This year, […]
Congratulations Dr. Caroline Muirhead!
Our lovely PhD candidate Caroline successfully defended her thesis titled “Neuronal Circuits Underlying Sensory Processing In C. elegans” on April 8th 2025. She studied neural connections in worms in response to pheromones and uses really cool imaging techniques to study neurons! We wish Dr. Muirhead a great future!
Congratulations Dr. Elizabeth DiLoreto!
Our brilliant PhD candidate, Liz, defended her PhD thesis on April 7th, 2025 and officially is Dr. DiLoreto! Her thesis was labeled ‘Neuromodulation of the C. elegans Functional Connectome’. Her research centred around the various neuromodulators that govern behaviors in C. elegans and a novel technique called the peptide-feeding protocol. We wish Dr. DiLoreto a great […]
Graduate Research Innovation Exchange (GRIE) 2025
WPI organized this year’s GRIE event on February 21 st 2025. Graduate students from all over the university present their posters, allowing them to showcase their research. This year, the prizes for GRIE and 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) involved travel grants for conferences. Graduate Shruti Shastry presented a poster titled ‘Battle of the Sexes: To Avoid or […]
3 Minute Thesis and Graduate Research Innovation Exchange
On February 16, 2024, WPI hosted two events for graduate students. At the 3 minute thesis (3MT) competition post-qualifying exam students present their thesis work in under 3 minutes with 1 static slide. At the Graduate Research Innovation Exchange (GRIE), students presented a poster of their work in their work and the attendees voted for […]
Research Experience for Teachers
From six weeks in the summer of 2023, we hosted two high school teachers, Rachel Adamsky and Tina Vlad, for a genuine Research Experience for Teachers funded by the NSF. This program was centered around Engineering for People and the Planet and was guided by the UN sustainability goals. Our goal was good health and […]
24th International C. elegans Meeting
On June 24-28, 2023, Jagan, Caroline, and Liz traveled to Glasgow, Scotland for the 24th International C. elegans Meeting. This was an exciting meeting for all, bringing together nearly 1700 scientists from around the world who all work with the model organism C. elegans. Caroline and Liz presented alongside 1300 posters presented in cell biology, […]
Happy 10th Birthday Srinivasan Lab
August 12, 2022 marks the 10th birthday of the Srinivasan Lab being at WPI! Over the years we have had: Triumphs Failures 4 PhD students 36 undergraduate students from WPI Countless high school volunteers 15 Major Qualifying Projects 20 publications and counting! National and international conference attendance Grant successes!! Biology summer camps for the past […]
European Worm Meeting
Caroline Muirhead and Elizabeth DiLoreto attended the European Worm Meeting July 27-30, 2022 in Vienna, Austria. There they each presented a poster to the community of worm scientists. They had a wonderful time connecting with collaborators and making new connections. See everyone at the next conference in 2024 in the Netherlands!
Massachusetts Life Sciences Innovation Day
At MALSI Day, July 21, 2022, Elizabeth DiLoreto represented our group and presented our patented work to deliver neuropeptides to C. elegans by feeding. Neuropeptides are small proteins that move between neurons to shape their activity. We have used this technology in a recent publication, Reilly, et al, 2021 Comms Bio, Figure 6D. So far this work has […]
