2018 CIMS Summer Undergraduate Research Students

Three WPI students are working this summer on CIMS-related projects.

Petra Kumi (’20) won the 2018 WPI Summer Undergraduate Fellowship (SURF) which will support her project “Metric of Physical Field Uniformity”. The project will make contribution to the program “CAD of Ceramic Millimeter-Wave Absorbers in Power Beaming Applications” sponsored by Leidos, Inc./AFRL, and advised by Prof. Vadim Yakovlev.

Jonathan Venne (’19) will work on the project “Role of Parameters of a Gaussian Beam in Controlling Patterns of Dissipated Power in Ceramic Layers”. His work will be supported by the funds in the program “CAD of Ceramic Millimeter-Wave Absorbers in Power Beaming Applications” sponsored by Leidos, Inc./AFRL.  Prof. Vadim Yakovlev is advising this work as well.

Darien Gaudet (’19) will work on a microwave-enhanced chemical vapor infiltration project, sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and in collaboration with experimentalists Matthew Porter and Prof. Jon Binner in the School of Metallurgy and Materials at the University of Birmingham.  Prof. Burt Tilley is advising this project.
