Mission:
CIMS aims to build partnerships between WPI, industry, and the general mathematical community that benefit our students, our faculty, and our sponsors.
Things We Do:
CIMS focuses on how the intersection of mathematics and industry benefits both. We do this in a range of activities: from collaborative projects between industry, WPI students and faculty to workshops on how industrial problems can motivate students to learn mathematics. Companies gain insight from a fresh set of eyes on a particular problem of interest, students learn how mathematics can impact the world around them, and educators benefit in how mathematics can be used in new contexts.
Sponsorship:
Working with over 70 different companies on hundreds of student-industry projects in the past 20 years, in applications ranging from manufacturing, finance, actuarial science and multiple areas in engineering.
CIMS Site Organization:
Benefits : How industry-university collaborations in the Mathematical Sciences Department benefit companies and students.
Research: Examples of student projects and sponsored research programs where these collaborations take place.
Initiatives: Programs that promote how others outside of WPI can learn to use mathematics and industrial applications either in their job or as their job.
Sponsors: What are the common aspects, from the industrial side, of these collaborations, and how does a collaboration start?
