2020 in review

2020 challenged us all but we made it! We worked remotely, gave online talks and redesigned outreach activities to run over Zoom. The hardest part was not being able to go out as a group but we managed to sneak in a socially distanced get-together complete with a game of catch! Here are our highlights: WE […]

Photonics West 2020

Guangjiang, Katy, Teng and Caroline attended SPIE Photonics West conference in San Francisco. Guangjiang, Katy and Teng gave talks, and Caroline got her first introduction to the THz field & more! Judging from the pictures, all had fun and came back inspired!

New papers on MXenes and SnS2! Congratulations to Guangjiang, Katy and Teng.

We wrapped up 2019 with Guangjiang’s paper that resulting from his stay in Dmitry Turchinovich’s lab in Germany as a WPI Global Research Fellow and our collaboration with Frank Hegmann’s group in Alberta and Vadym Mochalin group in Missouri, published in the Nano Letters! We then started the New Year with another paper on MXenes, […]

Welcome to Erika (PhD candidate) and new undergraduate research assistants

Erika Colin Ulloa has joined the lab as a PhD student this January. Erika has an MS degree in Optics from the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics in Mexico. We are also excited about new undergraduate research assistants who have recently joined. Ryan Hanna has been with us since summer of 2019, and […]

Guangjiang’s paper on MXenes accepted to 2D Materials

Congratulations, Guangjiang, Katy, our collaborators at Clemson University (Rama Podila, Apparao Rao and their teams) and at Missouri S&T (Vadym Mochalin and his team. Paper is online!

Katy’s paper on PbS got accepted!

Congratulations to Katy and thanks to everyone who contributed: Kefan, Binod and Lite, Pratap Rao and Ron Grimm. Paper’s online!

SPIE Photonics West 2018

Lyuba attended SPIE Photonics West Conference in San Francisco in January, 2018 and gave an invited talk on ultrafast photocurrents in GeS nanosheets (our work in collaboration with Kristie Koski at UC Davis and her team that has been recently published in ACS Energy Letters. Picture: Photonics Arcade with colleagues Dmitry Turchinovich (Max Plank Institute […]

Boston Fall MRS Meeting

Our team has attended Fall MRS Meeting in Boston. Lyuba gave a talk on our work on BiVO4. Erin Morissette and Curtis Doiron from the group of Ron Grimm presented a poster on ultrafast currents and THz generation in SnS2. Erin’s poster was nominated for a best poster award! Congratulations!

Women’s Impact Network Award

Erin, Katy and Lyuba were awarded a Women’s Impact Network (WIN) grant for our project Empowering Women through Optics. We will develop project-based activities illustrating application of optical spectroscopy to areas from medicine to food quality and clean energy for new summer programs for Girls, Inc Eureka and for Mount Wachusett Community College Starter Academy, […]

Our collaboration with groups of Prof. Rao and Prof. Deskins highlighted in a WPI press release

Our work on solar energy materials in collaboration with WPI Energy Research Group colleagues from groups of Prof. Pratap Rao (Mechanical Engineering) and Prof. Aaron Deskins (Chemical Engineering)  is highlighted in Eureka Alert news release. This work is supported by NSF DMR and Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.
