2021
May: Congratulations to Sarah Brown on receiving the Provost’s award for her Major Qualifying Project (MQP) and poster presentation!
May: The Manning lab received an American Cancer Society Research Scholar Award. Many thanks to the ACS and The Ellison Foundation, whose generous donation made this award possible!
2020
December: Congratulations to Dr. Conor Herlihy!!! On December 3rd Conor successfully defended his thesis and became the first PhD graduate from the Manning Lab. We expect to see great things from Conor as he heads out to join his postdoc lab!
September: The Olson and Manning Labs receive NIH funding for a collaborative project that incorporates mathematical modeling and cell biological approaches to better understand the forces that contribute to mitotic spindle formation. https://www.wpi.edu/news/wpi-awarded-more-900000-develop-computational-models-human-cell-division
Two more PhD candidates in the lab! Sabine and Greg have both successfully completed their qualifying exams- great job both of you!
2019
September: Its a big month for Dayna and Liz- both have successfully completed their qualifying exams and now their JoVE article is out in print! They love making movies and now you can read all about, and even watch movies of them making movies! https://www.jove.com/t/60255/live-cell-imaging-to-assess-dynamics-metaphase-timing-cell-fate
May: Congratulations to Hammad Sadiq on receiving the Provost’s award for his Major Qualifying Project (MQP) and poster presentation!
March: Lab Alum Eva Childers is now a PhD candidate at Dartmouth Medical School where she was recently featured by Dartmouth’s Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies as an “up-and-coming female STEM major”. Eva shares some insight on being a woman in STEM and the importance of mentorship (thanks for the kind words, Eva!) https://graduate.dartmouth.edu/news/2019/03/eva-childers-mentorship-mindset
February: Bernat and Eva’s first, first-author paper is out in Oncotarget! These two fabulous undergrads are now off to their own PhD adventures, but they have the everlasting distinction of having the first paper published of data generated entirely in the Manning lab. Great job guys! https://www.oncotarget.com/article/26714/text/
2018
April:Congratulations to Dayna Mercadante who received a graduate research fellowship from the National Science Foundation (NFS GRFP)! This award will support her for three years of her thesis work in the Manning and Olson labs as she uses mathematical modeling of mitotic spindle formation, complemented with wet- lab approaches, to predict and test requirements for mitotic fidelity that may differ between normal and cancer cells.
March: Manning lab received the Smith Family Award for excellence in Biomedical Research. Many thanks to the Smith family for their continued support of early career investigators! https://hria.org/tmf/smith/
February: Congratulations to Conor Herlihy who received WPI’s PhD Global Research Experience Award! This award will support his summer in France as he delves into a new model system to understand the functional relevance of epigenetic regulation of mitotic fidelity.
2017
July: Congratulations to Conor Herlihy who successfully completed his Qualifying Exam and is now an official PhD candidate in the Manning lab!
May: Congratulations to Lindsay Gurska who received an award for her Major Qualifying Project (MQP) and poster presentation.
April: Congratulations to Lindsay Gurska who was honored with the Salisbury Award for having faithfully, industriously, and with distinguished attainment completed all requirements for the Bachelor degree in Biology and Biotechnology.
April: Congratulations to Bernat Navarro-Serer who was honored with the Salisbury Award for having faithfully, industriously, and with distinguished attainment completed all requirements for the Bachelor degree in Biochemistry.
2016
August: The lab wishes farewell and good luck to one of the original lab members Aishwarrya, as she heads off to Brown University to pursue her BS degree.
April: Congratulations to Lindsay Gurska who was selected for an Arts and Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Award to study the role of the retinoblastoma tumor suppressor in regulation of genome stability
