Dr. Butler is first and foremost an educator who has a passion for mentoring and leadership development particularly in people groups who are under-represented in the STEM fields. During her time as postdoctoral research fellow at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, she has considerable experience working with undergraduates doing summer research. Dr. Butler has worked as a postdoctoral advisor and mentor in the research for undergraduates (REU) programs in 2014 and 2015 year. Each year, students successfully completed projects that were accepted for presentation at the biomedical engineering society (BMES). In addition to her REU work, she was a recipient of an American Society of Biomechanics diversity travel award in which she used to gain insight on the incorporation and the promotion of diversity in team design projects with her focus on biomedical device design.
